Subject: Better than Today's Commercials
Little known is the fact that most TV shows of the 50's/60's had LESS minutes of commercials than today's shows. Plus these commercials are FUN!
Subject: Long Ads...
Wow...am I ever glad that TV commercials today are usually only 15-30 seconds. I'd loose my mind if I had to sit through commercials that long today. The way advertising was done in those days is like they were trying to talk to idiots. Yeah..we get it. You're selling a car. Now move on already! lol
Subject: Lots of cars
It was good, though some of the car commericals are a tad overplayed in length. Some nice music to them though.
Mr. Snout -
Subject: Cars, lots of 'em
The shotlist lists 44 shots, but only shots 9 - 13 are in this part. The most interesting is the nearly silent 'reaction shot' Chevy commercial. Between that and the 'subliminal' Chevy spot, the advertising agency was really going nuts in '59! Except for the Dauphine ad, the other spots are rather dreary, both relying on the same 'arctic toughness' theme. 4 stars for the 'reaction shot' commercial.
Subject: Cars n' Parts
Some notes about this chapter..
The classic 'Task Force '57' 'commercial' (which runs well over 4 minutes) is here, with amazing narration and songs.
The Pat Boone-Dinah Shore 'subliminal' chevrolet commercials are also here.
Very auto driven (excuse the pun) this time, might be boring for some.. espcially the first and last spots.
